Modern Day Slavery

In the March 26, 07 issue of People there is a editoral entitled The Last Slaves of Mississippi, ironically with a question mark (as in saying is this for real) According to the Walls Family it is real and they were held in peonage (a modern relic of slavery) up until the early 1960s in Gillsburg Miss. only finding freedom when Mae Walls (Miller) ran away after refusing to clean a house of a another white family in Kentwood La.
History teaches us that slavery was abolished in 1865, why were these people held in bondage for almost 50 years? I shrudder at the fact that they were living off of whatever they could find, beaten and the woman were raped, forced to pick cotton and clean the homes of the white family that kept them in bondage and were also passed along to other white families.

According to the article peonage is an illegal practice and nobody knew of the nightmare that the Walls family lived until Mae Miller told her story to her family in 2001. You may ask how could they not know. Simply they were not allowed to listen to radio nor watch TV and none of them could read. You can contribute that to having no radio, electricity nor phone and they were forbidden to visit family or go into town and church.

My people, we need to educate ourselves, we are being pacified with little to nothing that this society has given us. After reading this I learned that I take a lot for granted and the things that are happening today that we are taking a stand and fighting for doesn't compare to what this family lived through, wake up and take account for the things that we have access to in this society that can free our minds from the "enslavement" that we are still trapped in. Events are happening right before our eyes and we are being blindsided by the N, B and H-Word and Don Imus issues. Recent events like the Jena Six and the Walls family as well as others leads me to believe that although it may seem that we have gained altitude in the past 142 years, the "airplane" has barely skimmed off the ground.

Due to his bankruptcy, his label Death Row Records Inc is trying to sell off unreleased recordings of Tupac as part of a bankruptcy settlement. According to the article on yahoo news Afeni Shakur has filed an injunction to have the sell of the recordings halted citing that they belong to the estate of Tupac. The state of Los Angles will decide within a month on whether it is permissible or not for the label to release Tupac recordings to help pay of the debt of the label.

My, My the release of never heard before Tupac material will sell out faster than blonde hair weave at the local Cra-ze Wave round here. Suge could make a lot of money off of this, probably enough to settle his debt, pay of Afeni and up his stock in partying in Paris - Hilton.

Sprint has decided to send at least 1200 of it's most complaining customers a letter stating that they will terminate service for calling the Customer Support line excessively. Many of the customers called at least 40 to 50 times a month. Sprint also said due to the amount of calls they felt that the customers were not happy with the service so they could take their asses somewhere else. Okay I added the take your ass somewhere else part, but you get the drift. I wish I knew this, I would have been calling Sprint everyday because I have major issues with these mofos but calling Sprint gets you 2 more years added to your contract. So many people walking around talking race isn't an issue, well apparently it is right along with the stature of class and economics. This is very apparent in the case of Genarlow Wilson a former Georgia high school football star who was jailed for 2 years for having consensual oral sex with a 15yr old girl on videotape when he was 17 in 2003. As of Monday he was ordered to be released from prison from the judge who cited that his 10 year mandatory sentence was a "grave miscarriage of justices." It gets better... the law itself has been rewritten by lawmakers in GA that will free Wilson but attorney general Baker has made the decision to appeal the overturned sentence which will keep Wilson in jail for now. Subsequently he would have to register as a sex offender if the sentence stands. To read more on this story see Forbes.com. My point is, there is different laws for Blacks and Whites. The sentencing is way different for the same crimes. Think about it and pay attention.

Aint this some ish: PAW PAW, Mich. - A man was taken on a wild ride when his wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and was accidentally pushed down a highway for four miles at about 50 mph, authorities said.

In my opinion I think that this is a stunt to take the attention away from Cam'ron for his 60 Minutes bit and the fact that there was an altercation between him Tru Life and Cam'ron took a shot in the a** (again NO HOMO). So Jim has taken one for the team and has chosen to spill his insides in classic Bitch Etiquette form (No Tru Life) , but at this point is choosing to remain silent so that Duke Da God (smh) can promote Dip Set More Than Music, whichever volume they are on at this time. Ok! So I watched 60 Minutes and the whole Stop Snitch'n effort. I was dumbfounded for one, who the hell is Cam'ron's manager? He should have never been advised to do this interview, the answer should have been a flat out no. Why? If he doesn't live under a rock he knows that Hip Hop has been on the proverbial chopping block since Don Imus called intellectual and talented Black women of Rutgers "nappy headed hoes". This my friends was a set up. Did Cam make hip hop look bad? Yes and No. Yes because it just adds fuel to the fire of how idiotic rap has become in the past few years and no because his words are not the absolute Gospel according to Hip Hop (although some may think that it is). Hip Hop has long since gone bad, he just put another log on the fire to make it burn faster. The bigger issue here is the code of ethics NO Snitching and if you do you are labeled as a RAT, people won't break bread with you let alone talk to you, you become out casted. This has gone on longer and way before Hip Hop came into existence, it's just more prominent now because people want street cred but at what cost. It has been said time and time again if you tell on somebody you are considered a snitch, hence there goes your street cred. When we were children the code was nobody likes a tattle tale, snitches get stitches and sleep in ditches. It is pumped into us from the time that we start talking and thinking logically for our own selves. So where do we draw the line? Does Cam'ron speak for the entire Hip Hop nation? Maybe, did he make Blacks look bad doing it? That's questionable, you have to form your own opinion, will this stop people from buying and listening to Hip Hop? Flat out no. This segment was a waste of TV time and I'm sorry that I tuned in for it. Sad to say, this is not going to go away and good ole Cam wore the jack ass suit and heaved us all into a whirlwind of a classic Boondocks Nigga Moment.
